ARTIST STATEMENT

Shot by Diana Gabrielli

Antonia's artistic practice is rooted in the medium of painting and grows out of an ongoing experimental process involving a multidisciplinary exploration of an artist-built-world by folklore and esoteric philosophy.

Acting as a cosmic demiurge, the environments they paint into being act as the foundation from which these worlds can evolve into a three dimensional existence. This is achieved through the incorporation of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, 3D modeling, and sewing as a means of expanding the possibilities contained in their cosmic compositions.

The transmutation of material required to create new worlds through Art has made Alchemy a central concern of their artistic investigations. They approach this topic through a hermeneutic of curiosity, assimilating a wide range of psychological, philosophical, and mythological perspectives to inform their understanding. This involvement with a diverse ecosystem of interpretation is reflected in their cosmological construction, inviting the viewer to combine aspects of their own experience in novel ways.

Through the assimilation of diverse methodologies and concerns, their work acts as a conduit for reinterpreting the role of  mythopoetic and metaphysical expressions in the contemporary cultural landscape, encouraging a light hearted and slightly humorous exploration of these ancient, often hidden, and socially relevant areas of knowledge.
